The benefit of the Radical Catcher is that it encourages other people to print and publish your work. What you put up here, print ready for people to enjoy, may be the entirety of your masterpiece, or it may be just a sample. That's your decision to make, to fit your own way of doing things.
It's not to replace the concept of webcomics, but to inhance them, to give readers something they can hold in their hands, to add some value to themselves by printing, folding and binding it. So that they can read your work on their toilet without the use of wireless internet.
The use of a Creative Commons copyright license instructs us all how these comics can be reproduced, and protects the authors from having their work taken away from them before they are done with it. But certain things need to be respected to make this work right.
Here are some simple rules:
- Publish only your work. Each author has the right to chose what part of their works they are going to put up for free. Don't violate that trust. Don't put your name on someone else's work. No plagerism, no copyright violations.
- When you download a Radical Catcher and print it out, fold it and construct it as it was intended to be done. Double sided, folded into digest format, with the inner pages inserted into the cover pages, with the masthead and copyright license on the outside, creating a book.
- Please respect international copyright law and the consideration of libal and some semblence of decency. While the Radical Catcher is all about free speech and the propagation of new ideas, the primary purpose of it is to promote the idea of comics. Comics published through the Radical Catcher should be chosen specifically for that purpose, to provide an example of responsible and thoughtful craftsmanship.
- When creating your own Radical Catcher, please respect the collective trademark and Creative Commons agreement, leaving the masthead and copyright license fully intact as it was originally created.
When you publish your comic, you may consider doing some of the following:
- Put your contact information or website address on each page.
- If you are making a digital version, make sure that the images in your comic are saved at no less than 150 dpi, and save it as a PDF file with the pages in proper pagination for printing (a tutorial for how to do that will be posted soonish). And use a file name that consists of your initials and the date that you published it.
- Print twenty copies of them and leave them in a prominant place for people to pick up and wonder over.
- Submit your work to Grass Dog Studio to be posted on this website and perhaps to be printed and distributed in the college town of Bellingham, WA, by Fenmere, the Worm, author of the Harmless Free Radicals.
- Each Radical Catcher contains only six pages of comics. Publish 18 pages and release them in three installments, giving people something to collect. Or publish even more!
- Host a collection of Radical Catchers on your own site.
